Authorities claim a nurse burglarized a Fresno hospital

A Fresno nurse with a seemingly clean track record is facing felony charges after investigators claim he burglarized the hospital where he works.

The man was on paternity leave when he apparently started coming into Saint Agnes Hospital and taking a few vials of Fentanyl at a time. Because the man was on family leave, he was not supposed to be at the hospital during that time according to hospital policies.

Investigators claim he took 400 vials in all. Fentanyl is a pain medication that is apparently more powerful than morphine. Authorities say they went to the man’s home and found many empty vials as well as one vial full of Fentanyl.

Although the man has been charged with various felonies, such as burglary, embezzlement, obtaining a prescription by fraud and grand theft, those who know him say there was never any indication that the nurse may have been abusing drugs. According to a news report, the man was previously nominated for a Daisy Award and has had good or better performance reviews.

There was no indication in the news article as to why federal officials initially tied the nurse to the burglary, prompting an investigation.  With a seemingly clean work record on his side, it is important for the man to protect himself against these accusations. At the time the news report came out, the man’s nursing license was still valid, but officials say as soon as he is arrested, his license will immediately be suspended.
